Removing indulgences from the diet makes us appreciate the simple things.
As you go through the third day of fasting, listen to your body and that which it craves. Try to understand why it is that your body is telling you these things. Even though our bodies are rooted here in this reality, they are still able to give us great insight into the Creator.
Do you crave an ice cream cone because you are tired or because you are bored? Take the time to reflect during the day and when the sun goes down, instead of giving yourself a pint of Ben and Jerry’s, why not instead give yourself a spoonful of yogurt? In this world of over consumption and mass produced products sometimes it is easy to lose sight of the fact that we can find just as much satisfaction in the simple as in the luxurious. In fact, during Ramadan, many people find that the simple is more luxurious than anything else.
