Since Facebook released the ‘Like’ button to the world at the end of April there has been a mad scramble to harness the viral power of the Like button. We’ve seen hidden I-Frame scripts, buggy directories, and blatant phishing attempts.

The fact of the matter is though, that someone is going to harness it.

For a while now the world has been talking about ways to make money on Twitter. When reading the news today for a second I thought the solution has been found by a third party provider. Although the money is virtual, I think the idea is worth presenting here in ‘monetinzing Twitter’ section. Pretwitting.com combines cleverly couple of things in one: making money, gambling, foreseeing the future, analyzing trends, predicting. It must be a fun game!

Indeed, Pretwitting.com is simple but entertaining. And addictive. This might be a killer. For a Twitter, that is. I have found myself checking up notoriously my fresh portfolio, consisting only of two words: ‘money’ and ‘era’. Any thoughts why these in particular?

OK, what is the new service all about? Each new participant gets ten thousand dollars ($10.000) for buying words. Their prices differ depending on popularity: the more popular the word, the more expensive it is. At this moment the most expensive one is “the” at $264. The 60th position is “by” at 24,29. The service monitors the usage of words on Twitter and the prices are based on statistics. The update takes place every 10 minutes or so.

There is another limitation on what (or rather how many) words you can buy. You get 1000 slots. Most of the words are occupying 1 slot only, but better ones more (up to 5 slots per word). In my case I managed to buy only 600 ‘eras’ and 100 ‘moneys’. And I am done – no more slots available. I must sell some of them before I can buy anything else. Fortunately, I can sell a part of the portfolio by declaring different quantities, (e.g. 150/300/600 or 25/50/100) which equals 25%/50%/100% of particular word portfolio.

So far I have been up and I have been down with my investment – this changes frequently.

By selling 25% of my portfolio just now I came up in ranking from 300 range to #189. Is it good or bad? You tell me!

To sum up: I think Twitter should be grateful to Pretwitting.com for coming up with such a great idea. If I was on board of Twitter directors I would focus my efforts on promoting the new game. It is so addictive and because of that got a huge potential: in getting new users, spreading the word about Twitter around (priceless PR we call it) or just creating excitement.

Autoresponders are email programs that can schedule and send emails to addresses automatically, based on arbitrary criteria. They can be extremely simple or hugely complex. They are often used to assist in the management of email lists.

Autoresponders are a great way to automatically contact your subscribers. If used smartly, they can save you an enormous amount of time and produce sales from your mailing lists through automated follow up on leads. Here are a few examples of ways in which you can use autoresponders:

* Automatically send a follow up email to customers who have bought products from you.
* Follow up with customers who download your free e-book/s or other “ethical bribe” products.
* They can be used by technical support to tell users that you have received their message and will get back to them soon. Such messages are important because they reassure your customers that their support request has arrived at its destination and will be attended to when you are available.
* Send prospective customers product price lists, your FAQ, and other fixed information. People emailing the autoresponder address you specify will automatically receive the information they require.
* Send email course modules. For example, if you have a three week course that requires course information or documents to be sent to your students once a week, you can simply request your students to send their addresses to your autoresponder. The autoresponder will then reply to your students with the course package at the scheduled times.
* A variation of the above is used by some webmasters to sell courses. They advertise an email address that customers can contact to receive a free sample of a course or book. The autoresponder then sends a few chapters from the course or book to the customers over three successive days. On the fourth day, the message asks the customer to sign up for the rest of the paid course or book if they wish to continue. Since the customer has sampled several segments (or chapters) of the course or book, he/she is able to decide whether or not to continue. If the course or book is particularly good, the autoresponder segments can be an effective way of persuading a customer to buy that product.

I have been spending quite a bit of time distributing the contents of my blogs through social networks. I wanted to find an easier way to do that. I found it in Shareaholic.

This Firefox Add-on makes it easy for you to email, share, or bookmark web pages using 60+ bookmarking, social networking, email, and blogging services.

The beauty of Shareholic is that it can save you tons of time by allowing you to go to all of your favorite websites, and thus it provides you with time to spend on your blog which you otherwise might have missed.

Lately, I’ve had to spend a lot of time grabbing screenshots, pasting them to MS Paint, then to Photoshop, then editing them, and then uploading and posting them. What a drag!

That’s why I was stoked to find Screengrab which allows you to make screenshots with ease. You can take the entire page or just the visible portion of the page and you can select just a portion of the page and then save it. No more editing!

My bookmarks have gotten out of control. I plan to visit all those sites I mark, but it rarely happens.

Until now. I found Read It Later yesterday, it allows for saving those links and then compiles them into a reading list which can be accessed on or offline at your leisure.

And, this tasty little add-on allows you to sync your list between more than one computer so that you can follow up on your reading at school, work, or at home.

Glydo

I do a lot of research when I am writing new content. It can be extremely time consuming. Glydo, yet another Firefox add-on figures out what I am looking for and then helps me find it!

Glydo looks at my keywords and then makes recommendations that range from Wikipedia to Twitter. The full range of information is looked at. News, blogs, YouTube, and it does it all by looking at the keywords I provide. While it is not a total solution, it does help by providing information that I might not otherwise have come across.
